Maha: Hyundai inaugurates Talegaon plant; Rs 11,000 Crore investment planned; CM invites more Korean industries

Pune, Oct 14 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday inaugurated Hyundai Motor India's manufacturing facility at Talegaon in Pune district and invited South Korean companies to invest in the state, assuring them of a seamless investment process through a single-window clearance system.
The inauguration marks a significant expansion of Hyundai's manufacturing presence in India, with the company planning to invest Rs 11,000 crore in phases to increase the plant's annual production capacity to 3.2 lakh vehicles by 2030.
Addressing the gathering, Fadnavis said Maharashtra had developed a strong industrial ecosystem and was well positioned to attract further investments from South Korea. He assured investors that the state government would simplify procedures and facilitate the establishment and expansion of industrial units.
"We will create a seamless process for their footprint and facilitate them through a single window," Fadnavis said, addressing South Korean Ambassador Lee Seong-ho and other dignitaries at the event.
The Chief Minister said the state had established the 'Invest Maharashtra' platform to help companies obtain the necessary clearances and support without having to approach multiple government departments.
"Nobody has to go from pillar to post. Just go to 'Invest Maharashtra', tell them what you require, and everything will be done at a single window," he said. Fadnavis welcomed Hyundai's decision to expand its manufacturing operations in Maharashtra, noting that the company's investment plans had increased from the initial Rs 7,000 crore to Rs 11,000 crore.
He said the expansion would strengthen the state's automobile industry and create opportunities for local component manufacturers, ancillary units and small and medium enterprises.
The Talegaon facility currently has an annual production capacity of 1.7 lakh vehicles. Hyundai plans to raise this to 3.2 lakh vehicles by 2030. The expansion will strengthen the company's ability to cater to the growing Indian market and increase exports.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of developing local supply chains. He said around 50 per cent of Hyundai's component sourcing was taking place within a 50-kilometre radius of the facility, providing opportunities for businesses in the surrounding industrial region.
He further noted the company's plans to increase domestic sourcing of components, which would strengthen the Indian manufacturing ecosystem.
'Design in Pune, Manufacture in Pune and Supply to the World':
Emphasising Pune's importance as an automobile manufacturing centre, Fadnavis encouraged Hyundai to use the city as a base for expanding its international operations. The Chief Minister said Maharashtra had the industrial infrastructure, skilled workforce and supplier network required to support large-scale manufacturing. He expressed confidence that Hyundai's presence would further strengthen Pune's reputation as a major automobile production hub.
The Pune region is already home to several automobile manufacturers and component suppliers. Hyundai's expansion is expected to deepen these industrial linkages and attract further investment to the region.
Speaking about technological changes in the automobile industry, Fadnavis welcomed automation and the adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies at the plant. However, he observed that India's employment requirements were different from those of countries facing a shortage of workers.
Referring to driverless vehicles, the Chief Minister said such technology should not be the industry's first priority in India, given the country's large workforce of drivers.
